From TED: Shake Up Your Work Routine

This is basically just a reblog, but it was so good, I had to share!

My lovely stepmom, Julie, showed it to me. It's Six Ideas from Creative Thinkers to Shake up your Work Routine.

My favorite suggestion is "keep to a schedule." It's the same sort of lesson I learned from the book The 4-Hour Work Week. The idea is simple - eliminate multi-tasking and distractions. Set an hour aside to get through a task, and don't let yourself check email, Facebook, or take a break until that hour is over. Get it done, and then move onto the next thing!

It's something I'm working on, but I'm still not the best at. I think a lot of people suffer from this syndrome in our multi-platform world. For example, as I write this blog, I'm watching TV with my husband, and my phone is sitting in my lap, ready for me to grab if anyone texts. I've got a million tabs open on my computer, and I'm flipping between this, christmas gift possibilities, my to do list, and about six articles I want to read. I mean, come on - that's no good!

Anyway, I'm trying to get better at this (despite all evidence to the contrary). And this blog post was a great reminder and the reinforcement I needed to keep working at it!
